God as Santa Claus?

Luke 11:13
If you then, though you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!

Preoccupation with spiritual performance often results in a tendency toward extremes of self-righteousness or shame, which both leads to high levels of anxiety. Spiritual systems should not be about performance but about emtional honesty or human need. How many churches teach that your place in heaven will be determined by how many good works you've done here on earth?

Santa is the one whose gifts depend upon our behaviour. God is the one who gives good gifts simply because He loves us not because of perfomance.

  • Such amazing and true words, Marianne. I actually really needed to see this right now, I find myself getting really judgemental sometimes and when really, all people need is to be understood. But it's so much easier to judge them than think about the deeper things might be going on in their lives. The devil comes after us even stronger and we should all work together to keep strong, not turn people away because they continuously make mistakes. We shouldn't forget the robe of grace and righteousness that God has given us. I'm done... xo!

  • Yes I know, I put these things up to foremost remind MYSELF! I guess it's the human way of justice: You get what you earn. And that's what we are told from we're very little... And it's not just about how we treat others in church it's also about how we believe we should be acting ouselves...
But I am glad that you liked it =)
