I know that this is an issue that has been discussed over and over, and so me doing so might not make any difference. I still want to post a few comments about abortion. Although it might sound harsh I stand firm against abortion. I believe that if a mother doesn't see herself as capable of taking care of a child then adoption is a very valid option! To me abortion is murder, it is killing a human being. I don't care what week it is done, fact is that in the end whatever comes out of your stomach when you take abortion would one day have become a unique person, an individual that is forever lost.
(picture: Baby is 8 weeks, in Sweden abortion is allowed until week 18)
In Sweden the statistics on abortion are extreemely high and attempts to lower them are met with contempt from liberal parties. This has resulted in Sweden having as high abortion rates as most East European countries, while Denmark and Holland, amongst others, have been able to lower the rates by promoting preventative methods as a better alternative to abortion. (for more info read article from Aftonbladet)
In 2005 1 in every 4th pregnancy ended in abortion, and amongst teenager 4 out of 5!!!*
In my opinion abortion is NOT prevention; it is choosing your own life and priorities above anothers.
The only exception would be if the fetus is so sick that when it was born it would not survive on its own, but I still think that mistakes can be made during such tests and results can be wrong. I wish that we would let nature take its turn much more often. Although medical advances are saving lives one can't help wondering if we sometimes save lives that would have been better if ended in a natural way.
I know a few women who took the decision to have abortion, and all of them have told me that it wasn't until they got older and had kids that they realized what they had choosen to do at the time.
I would like to end by saying that I'm not trying to judge anyone who has been through an abortion. It is a decision that is personal and with responsibilities and consequences that would lie on that person alone. I can not even imagine what such a process does to a person. I just wish that people would stop using abortion as a prevention and start realizing the real consequences of such a choice.
